Enka Commerce Park is under construction. The photo above shows the incredible transformation that’s underway to remake an old industrial site into a new industrial site. Three buildings planned on the 45.5-acre site will house almost 600,000 square feet of industrial space. The first building will be a 136,080-square-foot shell for an industrial or warehouse use. No tenants have been announced.

The history of the location (near the intersection of U.S. Highway 19 and Sand Hill Road) as a center for manufacturing and distribution dates back to the 1929 opening of rayon fiber manufacturer American Enka Corp., a Dutch company that also built the now-iconic clock tower that still stands. Asheville Watchdog Answer Man John Boyle gives a solid recap here of the effort to preserve the Enka Clock Tower.

The price of a single family home in Asheville keeps going up. The average sales price of a single family home in Asheville increased 10.25 percent in the second quarter of this year compared to Q2 of last year. The average "sold" price is now $704,866. That is up from $639,329 for the same quarter last year. The average list price of a single family house is now $715,451, up from $646,644.
