Some 17 acres of land along Hill Street, just north of downtown Asheville, is the site of a proposed mixed-use development that could include up to 377 multifamily residential units, as well as some office and retail space./ photo by Jason Sandford

A planned mixed-use development could bring up to 377 residential units, as well as some office and retail space, on 17 acres of land near Montford, one of Asheville’s oldest, historic neighborhoods.

The project, dubbed Sanctuary Asheville, calls for a mix of apartments with some single family homes, as well as a community grocer/café, a restaurant and local-oriented retail, as well as a centrally located open park space.
