This newsletter sponsored by Citizens Fuel Co., a family-owned Asheville company.

Dear loyal readers,

Before we get to some of what’s going around, I just want to once again express my sincere gratitude for your continued support and readership. Y’all are the best. I wouldn’t be here without you. I wouldn’t be doing this without you.

This year marks the 19th year of the Ashevegas website, and year 4 of this newsletter. Some 32 years ago, I moved back to Asheville to start working as a reporter for my hometown daily newspaper. Yup, I’m firmly in OG territory here. (In fact, I’ve been covering the news in Asheville just a little bit longer than the old curmudgeon himself, even though I’m younger, and much cooler, than John Boyle.) All that experience adds up to this no-bullshit newsletter.

Thank you, loyal readers. I hope your new year is off to a great start. I’m rested and ready to keep telling the story of Asheville. Here we go:

The Asheville Bagel Co., a home-based family business that launched late last month, has seen interest in its bagels explode in just a few short weeks. The bakers promises bagels made “the old-fashioned way,” a process that includes pre-fermentation, individual hand-rolling, a long cold-proof, then boiling in barley malt syrup before baking on bagel boards. Check out their website to read about how to pre-order, then pick up, your home fresh bagels. I can’t wait to try them.
